The Power of Coaching – the power of not going it alone!

I hope you’re having a great week and progressing steadily toward the achievement of some of your most important goals.  My recent message on “Secrets of the Success Superstars” generated a number of email responses and questions wanting to know more about what coaching really is and what it can actually do for you.  Realizing a good understanding of that is not something that should be “assumed” or taken for granted, I thank those who asked and offer my response below.  Most folks, both clients and non-clients, have found my description more detailed and more specific – as well as more enlightening – than most explanations they’ve received.  I hope you do as well and invite you to share your thoughts or comments below.  And if you have a very specific or personal question, please feel free to contact me.

As an Executive, Business Owner, or High Performance Professional – who knows better than you that nobody  should  be “going it alone” if they really want to be successful?  While it is possible for success to be driven by the vision and passion of one person, it is not a journey that one makes by themselves.  Successful people across a broad range of professions use coaches to help them play at the top of their game – and to play a bigger game. Top athletes, actors, singers, business executives, entrepreneurs, authors, technology innovators, and political leaders, among others – who are seriously successful, or serious about becoming successful – use coaches to develop and maintain the competitive edge that keeps them at the top of their game.

Top performers, and those who strive to be, understand it’s nearly impossible for one person alone to see or think “outside the box” into which they have blindly “thunk” themselves.  They recognize the power of synergy, and thrive on the increased ability to leverage their time, talents and resources that can result from a dedicated and focused coaching relationship.  Both they and their businesses grow much more rapidly as a function of Continue reading

Secrets of the Success Superstars

Sometimes It’s As Easy As Having the Right Can Opener

“What would you do if you KNEW you couldn’t fail?”  This is one of the most important questions you will ever answer.  “What would you DO if you KNEW…..you couldn’t fail?”  Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between those who never seem to taste success and those that never seem to drink anything else?  It’s almost like these Success
Superstars buy case loads of 6-pack cans of SUCCESS at Costco.  There are a number of factors that account for these differences.

First, these superstars know nobody should be going it alone if they want to be successful.  While it’s possible for success to be driven by the vision and passion of one person, they know it’s not a journey one makes by themselves.  Successful people across a broad range of professions use coaches to help them play at the top of their game and to play a much
BIGGER game.

These success superstars know we become slave to our habits and have learned how to master the technique of developing great habits – habits of success – and then relaxing, giving in, and expecting the success that will surely come.  As far as the discomfort of it, success superstars love it because they know it’s the only way to grow and achieve more and that most people will give in, give up, or give out before they get going and give their best.

The superstars of success use a coach to help them overcome obstacles and limits, see things as they really are and most significantly, how they can be.  By connecting the realities of their present and possibilities of their future, a coach helps them release an unbelievably awesome force in their life – and that’s no secret.  Imagine this scenario: you Continue reading

Thanks, and more hope…

Happy Holidays!

I want to take a couple of minutes to give you holiday greetings and to thank you for being a member of our Winner’s Edge community. I’ve had a chance to hear from, talk to and work with so many of you this past year and that has been both a privilege and a pleasure. I’m very grateful for the chance to help as well as to learn from so many. If we haven’t had a chance to communicate one-to-one this past year as you might like, I hope next year that will change. I’m planning on providing a number of free Tools, Insights, Practices and Strategies – T.I.P.s. – to help you hope – and know – you can achieve more of your dreams and goals.

This week I am enjoying time visiting with two of my young granddaughters and talking by phone with another. I have been struck by the magic of hope – in their eyes, in their voices and in their lives. Sure, the holidays brings out more of that, but I realized it’s there all year-long – whenever we talk or web-cam or they do anything. There truly is “magic” in hope. The challenge is to deal with the fact that almost all of us have felt that at some Continue reading

A Power Day for You!

What would it feel like to FINISH STRONG in 2010? What difference would it make if you were ready to LAUNCH into 2011 with the WINNERS? If you’re like many people, this year has flown by and in its wake has left frustration, confusion, fear, stress, plenty of missed opportunities, lessening of confidence, and uncertainty about the future – about YOUR future!  Because of the frequent jolts in the economy, it has become almost second nature for people to allow themselves to be jolted in all areas of their lives and to blame the economy, with little or no expectation of being able to change anything.  That’s a powerfully crippling expectation! If you’re stuck dealing with regrets, like…..

  • you feel like time has gotten away from you…..
  • you aren’t living to your potential…..
  • fall asleep stressed over the mountain of things you have to deal with…..
  • and wake up with the same feelings of anxiety…..
  • I didn’t increase my income like I “planned”…..
  • my debts didn’t decrease like I needed…..
  • I’m not sure how to set my goals for next year…..
  • or even what goals to set…..
  • I have some fears about what’s going to happen in the new year

then there’s one proven, simple, powerful way to bring that train to a screeching halt – and change tracks – FAST! Continue reading

The Secret to Letting This Be Your Season of Success!

I hope you’re doing fantasterrifically because the truth is, that’s the minimum you deserve! You may know that I love this time of year and this season that we are entering.  I sometimes refer to it as the “Season of Success”.  “Why?”, you might ask?  Because success, however YOU define it – and no matter HOW you define it – is rooted in the perspective with which you approach it.

Nothing will pave the way for your success in ANY area of your life like an attitude of gratitude – genuinely recognized and readily expressed.  Think about it.  More than a temporary or forced “state of mind”, I’m talking about a genuine “way of being.”  Such an approach, or rather genuine “lens on life,” portends a plethora of promises to the plenteously perceptive.  Genuine gratitude will: Continue reading

You’ll Always Play the Hand You’ve D.E.A.L.T. Yourself

With the completion of the recent World Series, I couldn’t help but notice again how many people who don’t necessarily follow baseball seriously during the season become serious fans at World Series time.  The great American past time does seem to capture attention, our imaginations and our hopes.

I’m reminded of a story I heard about a little boy who, like so many, dreamed of becoming a major league player.  He went outside to practice and holding the bat firmly in one hand tossed the ball up and gave it a might swing!  Missed.  Undaunted, he threw it up again and swung even harder and….missed again.  Remembering you get three strikes in baseball, he picked up the ball, threw it up higher and with all the concentration this little fellow could muster gave it the mightiest swing ever.  As he saw the ball drop to the ground, tears began to well up in his eyes.  Suddenly, a big smile came over his face and he shouted out, Continue reading
